Maybe grace is a little like this…

I turn 40 in a couple of months, and I set a crazy goal of running 40 laps–10 miles–on the big day. So I’ve been training, running 4 times a week. I’ve been running a loop that I thought was 4 miles. Tonight I took my GPS, and I discovered I’ve really been running 4.25 miles! Which means even though tonight was painful, I’m instantly faster than I thought I was.

Maybe grace is a little like that.

  1. I think this is “Grace – part 1”.

“Grace – part 2” is discovering that how fast we are matters very little in the overall scheme of things.

Except, of course, when one is trying to run 40 laps on one’s fortieth birthday.

(And btw, if you want to run 10 miles, make sure your 40 laps are on a 440 yard track. Most tracks are 400 meters, which is only 437.45 yards, and that would leave you 102 yards short of ten miles. I’m coaching track these days, so stuff like this stands out).

  2. Yeah, but when those track coach freaks force you to run in lane 4 or further, I’ll probably end up running MORE than 10 miles. 🙂

Good to hear from you! Before I started training, the longest I’d run at one time in my life was that 4 mile 4.25 mile loop. So this is quite a stretch for me.

  3. Ok, ok…last night, I ran it in 37 minutes, 20 seconds. My best in the last couple of weeks is 36 minutes, 30 seconds.

Last summer, I did it once in just under 35 minutes, and I can’t fathom right now how I was able to do that. Maybe my watch was broken. 🙂

  4. it is interesting to think of your physical running being an example of the running in the Holy Spirit and the changes that take place to make us spiritually stronger. and yes, it is certainly the Grace of God.
